Cunamacué

Afro-Peruvian Dance & Music

Cunamacué is an arts organization based in Oakland, California, dedicated to promoting Afro-Peruvian culture through its music and dance. This 30-minute cultural performance introduces students to Afro-Peruvian instruments, music and dance genres. Students are invited to follow along in learning the dance movements of zapateo and festejo. A short Q&A at the end of the performance provides insight into the development of the dances and instruments, and also explains why the performers became interested in pursuing their passions. Visual Arts with AEF’s Art Across the Island

Art Across the Island, presented by the Alameda Education Foundation (AEF), offers an artist profile and student art activity to complement each PAL performance for the 2020-21 school year.

In the first video, Peruvian-American artist, Talavera-Ballón, describes his vibrant mural of flowers, butterflies, birds, San Francisco Bay and forests. In the second video, students will be shown how to use perspective to create a landscape using crayons. We hope you enjoy!
