Vicki Varghese
In Memory and Appreciation (1954—2020)
In tribute to our beautiful friend and enthusiastic supporter, Vicki Varghese – we honor her heartfelt compassion, boundless energy and vibrant spirit. Vicki was deeply committed to helping others and was selfless in her daily acts of kindness. We are grateful for her dedication and outreach on behalf of the Rhythmix PAL program to be inclusive of students throughout Alameda and Oakland. We were also privileged to have Vicki serve on the Rhythmix Community Advisory Board and Board of Directors for many years as a champion for cultural arts. We love you Vicki — your spirit lives on!
Vicki Varghese had a constant smile and the kindest of hearts. She never ceased to help others, and made a huge difference to improve the lives of everyone she met. As an elementary teacher for English learners in the Alameda Unified School District, Vicki helped countless children learn to speak, read, and write in English. Through Vicki’s passion to increase understanding and appreciation of diverse cultures, languages, and traditions, she opened our eyes, ears, and our hearts by helping us learn to celebrate ourselves and each other.
It was my pleasure to serve on the Rhythmix board with Vicki and we will all miss her very much. She embodied the true spirit of contributing and volunteering. It took very little time to appreciate and be inspired by the depth of her commitment to giving back in a warm and loving way.
Audrey Lord-Hausman, Chair, Rhythmix Board of Directors
I am forever grateful for Vicki’s passion for the arts and its ability to transform lives. She used her relationships and knowledge of how to effectively reach out to schools, and helped the PAL Rhythmix program skyrocket to become the signature program it is now. I loved her unbound curiosity in all things – she was willing to participate in my rhythm meditation workshops not knowing what she would encounter. Her kindness and compassion were truly inspirational.

Vicki always made me feel welcomed whenever I saw her at Rhythmix. She always had the biggest smile and warmest hellos and hugs. I will never forget her spirit of kindness and love. I will miss her greatly.

Vicki made everyone feel that she was their best friend and was “all-in” with whomever she came into contact with. We were fortunate because we picked up on this virtue early on and grew from best friends into dearest family! One of our favorite things to do together was support Rhythmix and attend all manner of events and classes. Rhythmix was the perfect place for Vicki to invest her talents and enthusiastic love of all cultures and the arts. We miss Vicki terribly, but feel her sweetness everyday!
