Visual Arts with AEF’s Art Across the Island

Language occupies space within the calligraphy of Oakland artist, Rupy C. Tut. Using South Asian tradition, her respect for Punjabi poetry and a knowledge of science, Rupy creates amazing botanical drawings filled with words. The result of gold ink flowing across black paper is magical.

Language takes on a new form in the art project video. Using markers, students will write their names, making letters big and small, letting the letters stretch and encircle each other for dramatic effect. There’s science as well, as students will draw a leaf around their names.
