A 4-Week Course with Carnegie Mellon Professor, Stephen Schultz
This exciting 4-week course will trace the development of John Lennon as one of the 20th century’s great composers/song writers. The series will cover the early days of The Beatles through their creative height and eventual decline, through John’s tortured early years as a solo artist to his final album, Double Fantasy. The final class will feature a special guest appearance by Drew Harrison of the Sun Kings.
Drew Harrison will perform his full concert, “In the Spirit of John Lennon” as a benefit for Rhythmix on Thursday, June 27, 2019.
Stephen Schultz, called “among the most flawless artists on the Baroque flute” by the San Jose Mercury News and “flute extraordinaire” by the New Jersey Star-Ledger, plays solo and Principal flute with the Philharmonia Baroque Orchestra and Musica Angelica and performs with other leading Early music groups around the world.
A graduate of the Royal Conservatory of Music in Holland, Schultz also holds several degrees from the California Institute of the Arts and the California State University of San Francisco. Currently he is an Associate Teaching Professor in Music History and Flute at Carnegie Mellon University and director of the Carnegie Mellon Baroque Orchestra.
Singer-songwriter Drew Harrison leads a very successful, critically acclaimed band, The Sun Kings, in the San Francisco Bay Area and currently performs over 100 shows a year both solo and with his band. In addition to the band, Drew’s solo performances and his ‘In the Spirit of Lennon’ shows have yielded much praise, in which he is said to capture the intensity that Lennon brought to the Beatles music.
“Harrison’s ability to connect with his audience is quite amazing. His delivery has the power to touch listeners in a way you may not think possible.” -Beth Peerless, Monterey Herald
