Nowruz is celebrated by more than 300 million people each year in Iran, Afghanistan, throughout Central Asia, and the Kurdish regions of Iraq, Turkey and Syria. Discover the traditions of Nowruz, enjoy performances and learn the basics of Persian rhythms with Amir Etemadzadeh and Persian dancing with Natalie Nayun.
Meaning “new day”, Nowruz is a celebration of spring and new beginnings. Starting with the spring equinox, festivities last for two weeks, during which time people celebrate with dance, music, eating traditional foods, traveling and seeing relatives.
Pay-what-you-wish! Only 1 ticket needed per household and no one turned away for lack of funds. 50% of all proceeds and donations go directly to the artists.

Artist Bios
Amir Etemadzadeh is a Middle Eastern musician, instructor, performer, and composer. Born and raised in Iran, he studied and received extensive musical education from various masters. After arriving in the US in 2003, Amir expanded his portfolio to include drums from around the world. He is passionate about education and promoting peace through music and art. He currently manages his music academy “Amir School of Music.” and teaches Persian and Middle Eastern instruments to kids and adults.

Natalie Nayun has been dancing for more than 18 years and has devoted her life to the study of dance from Tajikistan, Iran and Uzbekistan. She has received grants and awards to study dance and conduct dance research in Uzbekistan and Tajikistan. Natalie is the Assistant Director of Ballet Afsaneh, Program director and teacher in the Afsaneh Dance Academy, and choreographer for UC Berkeley’s Sorayya Dance Company. Natalie’s inspiration comes from sharing the beauty of these regions of the world through dance. ⠀⠀⠀⠀
