Cascada de Flores

Cascada de Flores

Dance, sing and play as you join Cascada de Flores on a musical journey through Dias de Muertos traditions from Mexico and Central America. Together you will write messages for your muertitos on barriletes (kites), learn about calaveras (sugar skulls), and build an ofrenda (altar) with music, dance and memories for your muertitos.

Complete these activities with your class before watching the show for maximum participation!

Visual Arts with AEF’s Art Across the Island

Art Across the Island, presented by the Alameda Education Foundation (AEF), offers an artist profile and student art activity to complement each PAL performance for the 2020-21 school year.

In the first video, Irene Juarez O’Connell describes her Santa Cruz mural. Using math, Irene was able to transform watercolors into a huge 6-paneled work of art. Helped by Beach Flats residents, Irene illustrates local history from the native population to the present day.

Inspired by the Santa Cruz mural, students will learn how to make Mexican alebrijes using a pencil and markers in the second video.
