Our Classes

Capoeira Kids
Capoeira is a Brazilian art form that combines martial arts, music, dance, acrobatics, ritual and folklore. Classes for kids are fun, energetic and adaptable for the needs of each student. Classes will include: stretching, practice of Capoeira movements, training movements with a partner, conditioning, music and of course playing lots of Capoeira!
Instructor: Sam Batchelder

Book Arts for Kids

June 16-23 - ROBOTS, ROBOTS, ROBOTS! We will make our own robots out of cardboard, tinfoil, wire, googly eyes, bits of this and that, and our own imagination! Kids can take home as many as they can make. To inspire us, there will be an exhibit of Robots in the Gallery at the same time.

August 11-15,18-22
TUNNEL BOOKS: These magical books are like small 3D theaters that tell their own story in pictures. Whether it's a story about a pet, the rainforest or getting lost in space, each child creates their own tunnel book with their favorite topic. Text for our stories can be attached on the outside.
BOOKS WITH HIDDEN PAGES. Flexagons are fun books with hidden pages inside. They are a little bit like the "Magic Wallet" trick. We will make those pages appear and disappear as we turn the pages in a secret way.
POP-UPS. There is nothing like a pop-up to help tell the story. We will learn how to make pop-ups of different kinds so that each student can use them in a pop-up book that they make themselves.

Latin Percussion
An introduction to Samba and Afro-Brazilian percussion using many different instruments including drums, the surdo, tamborim, agogo bells and many more! Have fun playing while learning basic drumming techniques. No drumming experience is necessary and instruments will be provided!
Instructor: John Waller
