She has performed and taught with many dance companies, bands, theater & film productions, schools, and organizations. A consultant, and freelance performance artist with her company Spirit Theatre of Dance, Ava performs with Carolyn Brandy & Ojala! Afia Walking Tree, M.Ed, PhD, is the founder of Spiritz Drumz a Bay Area Drum Sanctuary & Institute for cultural activism, empowerment and leadership. Spiritz Drumz inspires individuals to ‘affirm, remember, and reclaim their voices and lineages, and to envision a liberated world.’ Afia is an internationally recognized world-class percussionist, vocalist and performer. Mar Stevens is a founding member of Sistahs of the Drum and Rhythm Sistas. She is a community and teaches and facilitates drum classes for events and conferences.
