June 11 - July 31, 2010 Opening Reception Friday, June 11th, 6:00 - 9:00 pm

Curated by:
  • Clint Imboden
Featuring accomplished Alameda artists:
  • Jon Kerpel
  • Ginny Parsons
  • K.C. Rosenberg
  • Peter Tonningsen
  • Danielle Wallis
Although each artist originally came to art making from a different perspective, Clint found a common sensibility to accentuate the locals environmental theme. Tonningsen's series "Flotsam and Jetsam" scans useless and discarded objects connected to the sea, Danielle Wallacewhile Parsons' paintings work with laundry detergent, gravity, acrylics and bacon grease motivated by her daily kayak adventures and encounters with the recent SF Bay oil spill. Each artist's use of materials is unique but complimentary to the collective vision.

Wallis explores the use of architectural references using fragments of walls and foundations as boundaries that alternately divide or bind together. Shifts in scale and the use of a controlled viewing field simultaneously amplify and collapse the distance between private and public, interior and Peter Tonningsenexterior, and physical versus psychological space. Her Foundations Series consists of 35 cement tiles cast from molds made of the remaining foundations of partially razed structures on the now defunct Naval Air Station in Alameda, California. Inspired by Jean Renoir's film "The River", Parsons spent twenty-one days paddling around San Leandro Bay taking landscape photos. When the Dubai Star spilled oil, the red booms made their way into her paintings in the series 21 Days on the Bay.
