Capoeira
for Adults

Capoeira is a Brazilian art form and self defense, with strong aerobic,
music and dance elements. It is a harmony of forces that gives you
power, flexibility, endurance and self-discovery. Capoeira balances
the body, soul and mind. It is a graceful, exciting art form that
teaches you to be alert. The only indigenous martial art of the Americas,
Capoeira was developed by African slaves in Brazil. The art keeps
its strong traditions and enables you to break through limits, revitalizing
your everyday life.
Capoeira is for everyone regardless of one's
athletic/martial arts experience.
Loose fitting clothing (sweat pants
and T-shirt) and a water bottle are recommended.
Sam Batchelder (Sumido) is an instructor at Capoeira Mandinga in
Oakland. He is a student of Mestre Marcelo Pereira (Eddy Gordo from
the video game Tekken 3). Mestre Marcelo has taught capoeira in the
bay area for 25 years and his work has helped spread Capoeira world
wide.
