Onward to Freedom – A Celebration of Black Music & History

At Woodstock Park (355 Cypress Street, Alameda)

Grab your chairs and blankets, pack a picnic lunch and head outdoors to celebrate the diverse cultural traditions of our community with live music and dance from around the globe at Rhythmix in the Parks!

On May 18th join Rhonda Benin & Friends at Woodstock Park, and explore the question: What is Freedom? Discover how the music created by enslaved African Americans expressed their desire and plans for freedom, and how that music helped them survive. Audiences of all ages will sing and clap along to this uplifting celebration of Black music and history.

About Rhonda Benin

Rhonda Benin is a San Francisco Bay Area based vocalist, producer, artist, and teacher. Her impressive resume includes her 22-year stint as a founding member of The GRAMMY nominated vocal ensemble, Linda Tillery and The Cultural Heritage Choir. As a solo jazz and blues artist, Rhonda has toured over 35 countries. In addition to singing, Rhonda is producer and founder of the Women’s History Month’s annual show “Just Like a Woman” a tribute to Bay Area Women in Music, celebrating its 10th year of production.

Get ready for fun all summer long as Rhythmix and the City of Alameda’s Recreation and Park Department bring people of all ages together to experience and explore music, dance, visual art and educational opportunities through a series of free, family-friendly concerts and festivals in Alameda’s City Parks.
